HPCI CEE 2023 Poster Session Results

The topic of 2023 Poster Session was “Development In The Cosmetic Industry – Technologies, Products, InnovationsPoster Session, hold already for the third time, was organized by the HPCI CEE Partner – The Warsaw College of Health and Engineering. Posters were displayed in the Exhibition Hall during the event. Academic community presented the latest research and innovative solutions that contribute to the development of the cosmetics industry. The format of the poster session enabled synthetic and creative presentation of the most recent developments in the industry.

On behalf of HPCI organizers and The Poster Session organizers, we would like to invite academic community, students and exhibitors, to present the latest research and innovative solutions that contribute to the development of the cosmetics industry. The format of the poster session enables synthetic and creative presentation of own research, and the most recent developments in the industry.

The Jury, led by Dr. Katarzyna Pytkowska, decided to honor 3 posters, one with the first prize and two ex aequo with the second prize.

 

1st PRIZE:

Antioxidant properties of maqui berry extracts (Aristotelia chilensis (Mol.) Stuntz) and their potential photoprotective role in human skin fibroblasts

Abstract:
Maqui berry (Aristotelia chilensis) is an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory plant. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of maqui berry extracts on human skin fibroblasts exposed to UVB radiation. The total polyphenolic content (TPC), antioxidant capacity (DPPH), cell viability and DNA synthesis were investigated. The results showed that maqui berry preparations have high antioxidant capacity. At the dose of 200 μg/mL 70% ethanol maqui extract significantly increased viability of human skin fibroblast cells after 48 hours of incubation. The results indicate that maqui extracts, could potentially be used in the production of nutricosmetics and skin care products.

2nd PRIZE 1:

SulFOX – a new hybrid compound with dermoprotective and dermotherapeutic potential

Abstract:
In scientific research, efforts were directed towards seeking a novel approach to the treatment and care of cutaneous infections, particularly acne-related ones. Through “ala” biosynthesis, a SulFOX hybrid was obtained, potentially amalgamating antibacterial, antioxidant, immunomodulatory, and anti-inflammatory properties. It may also demonstrate protection against UV radiation and prevent the development of bacterial resistance. Furthermore, it is practically insoluble in water, enabling the maintenance of a constant concentration at the application site – the acne lesion, thereby enhancing effectiveness and reducing treatment duration. The SulFOX hybrid is relatively durable and can act as a slow-release precursor carrier, leading to an extension of their biological activity. The SulFOX hybrid holds promise as a solution in the care and treatment of cutaneous infections.

2nd PRIZE 2:

Coffee waste valorization by acquiring cosmetic ingredients rich in antioxidants

Abstract:
As a result of coffee brewing in Europe, about 9,000 tons of waste is generated each day, most of which ends up in landfills. However, the numerous substances present in these residues, including antioxidants, prompt many scientists to research their use in various industries. The presented solution concerns aquiring oil and antioxidant extract from spent coffee grounds. Chemical analyses and the in vitro assays on skin cells showed high antioxidant activity and no significant cytotoxic effect of these raw materials. Thus, they can be used as valuable active ingredients in cosmetics, offering environmentally friendly substitutes for currently used substances.
